[Speed and Delko arrive. They walk towards Horatio.]

HORATIO: Gentlemen, thank you for cutting your vacation short.

SPEED: No problem. (pause) So this boat slams into a bridge. Is that a crime scene?

HORATIO: Witnesses say that the boat was aiming at the bridge.

ERIC: All right, we’ll go grab our stuff.

YELINA: Yacht was reported stolen out of a marina an hour ago.

HORATIO: Did you find the driver?

[Horatio starts to climb down the stairs.]

[Yelina stares at the dead body.]

YELINA: Found someone. Only soul on board. Italian suit--street shoes. (Horatio walks toward Yelina and the dead body.) Not the kind of thing that you’d wear for a day on the Intercoastal.

HORATIO: Hmm. (Horatio bends down towards the body and points at the victim’s left temple.) And that’s stippling right here, which means he was shot at close range. (Horatio stands up and walks towards the side of the boat.) Shooter went overboard right here.  (Horatio notices footprints.)

YELINA: We’ve put Frogmen in the water. Nothing so far.

HORATIO: You shoot a man, you jump ship…

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. BOAT-DAY]

[ Reed Williams  is shot and the killer jumps off the boat while the boat is on autopilot.]

End of Flashback
Resume to present

HORATIO: …and then you crash a bridge. That couldn’t of been the original plan, right?

YELINA: Mm. It would attract to much attention.

[Horatio looks up at a car being pulled out of the water.]

HORATIO: It certainly would.

Cut to:

[Camera pans over the boat. Horatio stands while Alexx examines the victim.]

ALEXX: No exit ramp for our well-dressed man. I’ll extract the bullet at the post.

HORATIO: Get an I.D. yet, Alexx?

[Alexx reach’s into the Reed William’s pocket and pulls out an I.D.]

ALEXX: Reed Williams, age 51.(She hands the wallet to Horatio.)
Bal Harbor
. That explains the expensive suit.

CALLEIGH: Got a casing: .22.

Cut to:

Cut to:

EXT. WILLIAMS RESIDENCE-DAY

[PRELAP: Doorbell.]

[Horatio and Yelina walk up to the door.]

[Mrs. Williams opens the door.]

YELINA: Miami-Dade Police.

TAWNY WILLIAMS: Did you find my son? (pause) Reed went out to get our son back.

HORATIO: Get your son back from who, ma’am?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: We don’t know. They called, they said they had Joey, asked for a ransom. Reed went out to pay them almost three hours ago. I haven’t heard a word since.

HORATIO: Was he supposed to meet these people on a boat?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: Yeah, Slip 29, like they said. Where is my husband?

YELINA: Mrs. Williams, I …um, very sorry to inform you that your husband has been killed.

TAWNY WILLIAMS: Oh, no.

[INT. WILLIAMS RESIDENCE-DAY]

[Tawny Williams is sitting down next to a coffee table. Horatio and Yelina stand.]

TAWNY WILLIAMS: (handing picture to Horatio) This is Joey. And I wrote down everything that they said. (She hands a notepad to Horatio)

HORATIO: Please lay that on the table. (Tawny places it on the table) Thank you. (Horatio glances at the notepad) 3 million dollars in jewels. Did these people know that you had these jewels?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: We’re in the paper a lot, you know; events, fundraisers…

HORATIO: Did your husband take these jewels to meet these people.

TAWNY WILLIAMS: To pay for Joey. They haven’t called. There hasn’t been a second call. Why would they take the jewelry and not give us Joey?

HORATIO: Hang on. Lets go back to the beginning. Where was Joey taken from?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: From martial arts class. It happened about four hours ago.

YELINA: We’ll need the address and this photo of Joey. We’ll also need your DNA as a reference, in case he’s-um…

TAWNY WILLIAMS: He’s dead. I know.

HORATIO: Let’s not go there yet.

YELINA: Why don’t you show me to Joey’s room?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: Yeah. (she gets up and begins to walk away. Yelina follows) It’s…right this way.

[Horatio gets on his cell phone.]

HORATIO: Speed, how’s it going?

INTERCUT TO:

[EXT. BOAT/WATER-DAY]

[Speed is on his cell phone.]

SPEED: Frogmen didn’t turn anyone up. I did get some soil on the uh, point where the shooter went into the water. I don’t know how instructive it’s going to be.

INTERCUT TO:

[INT. WILLIAMS RESIDENCE-DAY]

HORATIO: I think we have a kidnapping situation here; a six year old boy.

INTERCUT TO:

[EXT. BOAT/WATER-DAY]

SPEED: Who’s our dead guy?

INTERCUT TO:

[INT. WILLIAMS RESIDENCE-DAY]

HORATIO: The boy’s father.

INTERCUT TO:

[EXT. BOAT/WATER-DAY]

HORATIO (vo): And I think the situation went south, so that mud might be our only connection to the suspect.

SPEED: I’m on it.

[Speed hangs up the phone.]

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. BOAT-DAY]

[Close up: Foot steps down leaving a muddy print.]

End of Flashback
Resume to present

[Speed takes some photos.]

[Eric finds a black bag.]

ERIC: Hey, check this out. Ransom could’ve  fit in this bag. (He unzips the bag and pulls out a fish.)

SPEED: It’s a fish.

ERIC: Might’ve just given ourselves a secondary crime scene right here.

SPEED: How do you figure?

ERIC: I’ll explain once I get back to the lab. In the meantime, you, uh missed a spot over there.

Cut to:

EXT. MIAMI-VARIOUS STOCK-DAY

Cut to:

INT. MARTIAL ARTS CENTER-DAY

[Horatio and Yelina interview the karate teacher, Ken Timmons.]

KEN: Kidnapping? Well, I-I  thought it was a custody thing.

YELINA: What custody thing?

[Horatio glances over at the kids practicing karate.]

KEN: Well these rich parents are always fighting over their kids. Divorce. You know, one will send the P.I. to swoop in, grab his kid after practice.

HORATIO: But you just said that Joey Williams never made it in for practice.

KEN: I went out front. It was like,
ten past eight
. I saw a Mercedes S-Class trying to shut the door on the kid. I get close, then the guy just drives off.

HORATIO: One man driving?

KEN: Well, as far as I can tell.

HORATIO: Okay, show me exactly where this car was. Show me.

[EXT. MARTIAL ARTS CENTER-DAY]

KEN: The Mercedes was parked right here. Pulled out this way and made a left at the street.

[Horatio measures a tire tread with a tape measure.]
HORATIO: A 66-inch wheel base, Ken.

KEN: Is that supposed to mean something to me?

HORATIO: What it should mean to you is that you’re lying, because the S-Class has a 62-inch wheel base, and it means that it couldn’t have been the abduction car. Kidnappers work in teams--are you in on this?

KEN: No.

HORATIO: No? I need to find out what’s going on here. If this kid gets killed you are all in. You understand?

KEN: Okay, the guy gave me an envelope through a cracked window it was tinted. (he reaches for his belt and pulls out an envelope) I never saw his face.

YELINA: You basically got paid to look the other way.

KEN: Like I said, I thought it was a custody thing.

HORATIO: The envelope?

[Ken places the envelope in Horatio’s envelope.]

HORATIO: Now Ken, tell me what kind of a car it was and don’t make me go down there and measure again.

KEN: It was like a
Pontiac
. Midsize…A Grand Prix maybe?

YELINA: All right, I’ll put out a broadcast: “stolen Grand Prix.”

HORATIO: Stolen Grand Prix, all colors. They’ve had five hours to re-paint it.

Cut to:

EXT. MIAMI-DAY

Cut to:

INT. CSI-LAB/LAYOUT ROOM-DAY

[Calleigh comes rushing in.]

CALLEIGH: All right, which one of you  stole my Crime Light?

SPEED: Well, “stole” is-is very negative. I-I had borrowed it, and I had replaced it, I uh put it back.

CALLEIGH: It would be nice if you charged it first. I was at the scene and it flat lined.

DELKO: Sounds like she’s mad at you.

SPEED: Calleigh, I sincerely apologize.

CALLEIGH: Apology accepted. Give me yours.

SPEED: Go ahead, it’s in my kit.

[Calleigh walks out of the room.]

SPEED: Hope she doesn’t need her sodium rhodizinate.

[Eric chuckles and continues flipping through a “fish” book.]

ERIC: Confirmation. Triploid Grass Carp. It’s uh, specifically engineered to control aquatic vegetation in the canals.

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. CANAL-DAY]

[A Countyman dumps some fish into the canal.]

ERIC: (v.o) The county dumps them, they eat five times their wait in vegetation.

[The fish eats vegetation under water.]

End of Flashback
Resume to Present

SPEED: Well, Nemo there is 8 inches long, so he was just released.

ERIC: All right, so uh we find out what canal we’ll be able to fund out where our suspect was prior to the ransom handoff.

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. WATER-DAY]

[The Suspect swims toward shore with the black bag.]

End of Flashback
Resume to Present

SPEED: 600 square miles of waterway in
Miami
.

ERIC: That’s okay, we can narrow it down. The county needs a permit to dump carp, so… let’s enter the carp size to find the date and location of the carp. (He does  a search on the computer.) You got something?

SPEED: Yeah. Canal number 2239 on
Newberry Road
between 103rd and Fountain.

Cut to:

EXT. CANAL/CAR TRAIL-DAY

[Horatio is driving the Hummer. They arrive to where they need to be.]

Cut to:

EXT. CANAL-DAY

[Horatio is squatting down.]

HORATIO: Eric.

[Eric walks over, he is in a rash guard.]

ERIC: The right kind of tread for a Grand Prix.

HORATIO: That’s right. The car went in right here.

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. CANAL-DAY]

[The Grand Prix goes into the water and sinks.]

End of Flashback
Resume to Present

HORATIO: Okay. You’re going in Eric.

[EXT. CANAL-DAY]

[Eric is underwater.]

[Eric finds the car and shines his flashlight in the car. He finds what appears to be a backpack.]

[Eric comes out of the water.]

ERIC: Nothing. No sign of the boy inside of the car and too much pressure to pop the trunk open.

HORATIO: Let’s fish it out of there.

Cut to:

EXT. CANAL
-DAY-(LATER)

[The Grand Prix is being pulled out of the water.]

[The car is now above the water and on land. Horatio and Eric pop the trunk open.]

HORATIO: Take a look at that. Fingernail marks right there. Look at this. This is a long blond hair just like Joey’s. (He bindles it.) So they had him locked in here, Eric.

Quick Flashback to:

[INT. CAR-DAY]

[Joey is screaming and crying. He screams help a few times and hit’s the car.]

End of Flashback
Resume to Present

ERIC: It’s good. If they were going to kill Joey, they would’ve left him in here.

HORATIO: Makes the good news the bad news, doesn’t it?

ERIC: How do you mean?

HORATIO: They still have him.

(Commercial Set)

FADE IN:

EXT. MIAMI-VARIOUS STOCK-DAY

Cut to:

EXT. CANAL-DAY

YELINA: Car belongs to a couple in
Seaside
. They reported it stolen two days ago.

CALLEIGH: I’ll process this at CSI. See if I can pull any prints.

HORATIO: Okay, thank you Calleigh. You said there was another problem.

YELINA: Mm-Hmm. Department of Infrastructure wants jurisdiction over the boat. They’re towing it out of the water right now.

HORATIO: Okay, Eric, go back to the boat and inform DOI that our murder supercedes their bridge-failure, please.

ERIC: Okay, I’m on it.

YELINA: So kidnappers sank the car to hide it?

HORATIO: Yes they did. They attempted to destroy evidence, but they left us a calling card. Look at this.

[They both glance down at muddy shoeprints.]

YELINA: Footprints.

HORATIO: Joey put up a struggle.

YELINA: He was running. This way.

[Yelina and Horatio begin to walk.]

[Horatio and Yelina stop and discover a “heely”.]

HORATIO: This is where they grabbed him.

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. CANAL-DAY]

[Joey is being dragged. He tries to resist but he cannot. His “heely” breaks off.]

End of Flashback
Resume to Present

HORATIO: Okay, have your officer alert the mother.

YELINA: Horatio?

HORATIO: I think they’re gonna try and cash in a second time.

Cut to:

EXT. MIAMI-BRIDGE-DAY

[The scene is still filled. Police cars and such are still on the scene. News Reporters and lurkers crowd in.]

[Eric is in a boat talking to a DOI Guy in another.]

DOI GUY: Two months before this bridge is retrofitted, this happens.

ERIC: Yeah, well, you’ve got your problems and I’ve got mine. We haven’t released the crime scene yet.

DOI GUY: Your crime scene is part of a bridge failure

ERIC: Well murder trumps the bridge, okay? So you’re going to have to relinquish the boat.

DOI GUY: You CSI guys have been dusting and tape-lifting for five hours. What else are you planning on doing to the thing?

[Something catches Eric’s attention. He shines his flashlight on the boat.]

ERIC: Have a look at that. You see that?

[A bracelet is caught on the boat.]

ERIC: Must’ve been jarred loose when the boat was being towed. I’m going to have to search the exterior of this vessel.

[The DOI Guy nods and walks away.]

Cut to:

EXT.
MIAMI
WATER-DAY

[Underwater.]

[Eric has a wet suit on and a oxygen tank. He shines his flashlight on what appears to be a silver suitcase. He continues his search and finds different assortments of jewelry.]

[EXT.
MIAMI
WATER-DAY]

[Above water.]

[There are Police Boats.]

[Eric pops his head out from under the water.]

ERIC: Got what looks like over three million in jewelry. I’m going to need two more officers.

Cut to:

INT. CSI-GARAGE-DAY

[Calleigh has protective glasses on. She pours some sort of clear liquid on the front of the car.]

DISSOLVE TO:

[She begins to pour the liquid on the top of the car and it drips down to the front of the car.]

DISSOLVE TO:

[She moves to the back of the car and closes the trunk. She pours the liquid on the trunk. The liquid reveals a pink like color palm print.]

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. CAR-DAY]

[A unknown man closes the lid. Two palm prints appear.]

[He wipes down the trunk with a rag. The prints disappear.]

End of Flashback
Resume to Present

Cut to:

INT. CSI-HALLWAY

[Calleigh and a Fingerprint Technician walk down the hall.]

FINGERPRINT TECH: A palm--it’s not as easy as a fingerprint.
Lot
more surface to scan and compare.

CALLEIGH: I know, but will you call me immediately if you get a hit? We’re coming up on eight hours since the Williams boy was abducted.

FINGERPRINT TECH: I’ll do my best. (He walks away)

CALLEIGH: Thank you.

Cut to:

INT. CSI-RECEPTION DESK-DAY

VALERA
:  I thought you’d want to know I ran the hairs you found in the car trunk. They’re a match to Joey Williams.

HORATIO: Did you confirm them with the DNA for the parents?

VALERA
: Well, parent. Your dead man on the boat is his father. That leaves us with Mrs. Williams…

HORATIO: The stepmother.

VALERA
: Yeah. No blood relation.

HORATIO: Good to know, thank you
Valera
.

[
Valera
walks away.]

Cut to:

INT. CSI-LAB-DAY

[Close up: Diamond Bracelet is being examined by a magnifying glass.]

SPEED: So these diamonds were hanging off the boat?

ERIC: Yeah. Why? What’s up?

SPEED: Nothing. They’re fake.

ERIC: You’re sure?

SPEED: You may be the fish expert, but I know gems. This is the latest thing, laboratory grown diamonds.

ERIC: Like zirconium?

SPEED: No, they’re real diamonds, just man made. Fraction of a price of diamonds from a mine.

Quick Flashback to:

[INT. JEWELRY STORE]

[Close up: A Diamond is in a small dish and is being touched y tweezers.]

SPEED: (v.o.) Take a piece of pure graphite and put in a ceramic box with some chemicals.

[The diamond is being placed into a ceramic box.]

SPEED: (v.o.) Then slide the whole thing in a pressure cooker.

[Ceramic box is being placed in a pressure cooker.]

SPEED: (v.o.) It simulates the pressure and pressure fifteen miles below Earth’s surface.

[Pressure cooker closes.]

Quick CGI:

[Camera moves inside the pressure cooker into the ceramic box where we see the graphite begin to vaporize. Box comes out and smashes. Diamond
Crystals
inside. ]

SPEED: (v.o) Graphite vaporizes. After three days, they pull out the ceramic box, break it open, then you got yourself a diamond crystal.

End of CGI and Flashback
Resume to Present

SPEED: Just like nature only a million times faster.

[Horatio walks in.]

HORATIO: Gentlemen, are these the emeralds?

SPEED: Yeah, we were just about to check ‘em.

HORATIO: Okay.

[INT. MICROSCOPE VIEW]

[Emeralds]

HORATIO: (o.s.) Wait a second, this emerald has a scrape on it.

[Microscope view change: Closer Picture of Emerald]

[INT. CSI-LAB-DAY]

HORATIO: You can’t scrape a real emerald.

ERIC: What’s the tool mark?

HORATIO: It’s not a tool mark, it’s a tooth mark. Look at the striae pattern.

[Horatio backs away from the microscope and Eric takes over.]

[INT. MICROSCOPE VIEW]

[Emerald]

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. ------]

[A Man bites on a emerald.]

End of Flashback
Resume to Present

[INT. CSI-LAB-DAY]

ERIC: It’s a chipped tooth.

HORATIO: Mr. Williams got shot for passing fake jewelry.

Quick Flashback to:

[EXT. BOAT-WATER-DAY]

MR. WILLIAMS: Here, take it.

[Mr. Williams opens the suitcase up and a Man grabs a random jewel out. The Man bites it.]

MYSTERIOUS MAN: These are fake!

MR. WILLIAMS: No, they’re not.

MYSTERIOUS MAN: You’re a liar.

[The Mysterious Man shoots Mr. Williams and dumps the jewels in the water.]

End of Flashback
Resume to Present

Cut to:

INT. WILLIAMS RESIDENCE-DAY

TAWNY WILLIAMS: That’s not possible. Our jewelry’s real. We don’t own replicas.

HORATIO: Did your husband know that?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: Meaning what?

HORATIO: Meaning that it’s possible that you swapped out the fake ones for the real ones and didn’t tell him.

SPEED: You sent him in with a fake ransom. Sounds like a two-fer. Gets rid of the old man. Now you can collect on insurance money for jewelry you never lost in the first place.

TAWNY WILLIAMS: You think that I’d would put my son’s life at risk like that?

HORATIO: Don’t you mean your stepson? (pause)  You neglected to mention that, did you.

TAWNY WILLIAMS: We’re a blended family. We don’t use those terms.

HORATIO: You see, the problem Mrs. Williams, is that you’ve with held information and it makes you look complicit in his abduction.

(Tawny walks to the next room and grabs a stack of papers. She comes back to the room that she was in before.)

TAWNY WILLIAMS: We got the jewelry appraised last year.

HORATIO: A lot can happen in a year. Now…who else had access to those jewels?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: Just be and my husband. We keep them in the vault.

HORATIO: Did you ever, have them cleaned?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: After events, sure. At McCauley Jewelers.

HORATIO: McCauley Jewelers, Speed. Thank you.

[Horatio walks off camera.]

Cut to:

EXT. MCCAULEY JEWELERS-DAY

[Horatio and Speed get out of their Hummer.]

SPEED: I bet that Rolls belongs to the Owner. Cars are such a bad investment.

[Speed and Horatio walk towards the entrance of McCauley Jewelers.]

SPEED: I’m just happy I have my bike.

HORATIO: Some day, you might need something with doors.

SPEED: Well, I got plenty of time for that.

[Horatio and Speed go into the store.]

RUDOLPH KOEHLER: Oh, Mr. McCauley is the previous owner. I’m the new owner. Rudolph Koehler, call me Rudy. (Glances past his back then faces Horatio). But maybe I can help you with something, officer. I’d be more than happy to help the police.

[Speed walks around the store.]

[Speed comes to a counter top where two, nicely dressed ladies, stand.]

HORATIO: Yes, I’ve recently been speaking with your customer, Mrs. Tawny Williams.

[Speed glances behind the counter where he sees a man below a table.]

RUDOLPH KOEHLER: Yes, I just heard the news about her husband.

[Speed begins to reach for his gun.]

RUDOLPH KOEHLER: It’s tragic. She’s such a nice lady.

HORATIO: Excuse me. Speed? (pause)(Horatio starts to walk towards Speed) Stay put.

RUDOLPH KOEHLER: She and her husband were very good customers.

HORATIO: Thank you, Rick.

STETLER: It’s an officer involved shooting. You know I got to work it.

HORATIO: Yes, the body is still warm.

STETLER: Unfortunately, that’s the best time for me to be here. Where’s Speedle’s weapon?

HORATIO: See Calleigh.

STETLER: And yours?

HORATIO: See Calleigh.

RUDOLPH KOEHLER: We swapped stones on jewelry. I don’t know anything about a little boy.

HORATIO: You didn’t conspire with Mrs. Williams to kidnap her son. Is that what you’re telling me?

RUDOLPH KOEHLER: What? Kidnap? I barely know Mrs. Williams. I may be a thief, but that’s all.

HORATIO: Who were the gunmen inside then?

RUDOLPH KOEHLER: Security, I hire them. But only to protect the stones.

STETLER: Each case is unique. However, the last time that Speedle was involved in a shooting, his service pistol misfired.

CALLEIGH: I vaguely remember that.

STETLER: One misfire is bad luck. Two is usually bad gun maintenance.

CALLEIGH: Well, I haven’t started examining Speedle’s gun. And like you said, every case is unique.

TAWNY WILLIAMS: Pete did this? Well, I haven’t seen Pete in years.

HORATIO: He murders your husband, he kidnaps your stepson and I’m to believe that you haven’t seen him in years…Sissy? This is a list of known associates and it appears (shows Tawny the folder) that you and Pete have been separating people from their money for quite awhile.

YELINA: Usually older, rich men.

TAWNY WILLIAMS: I ripped off rich guys. Okay? I admit it. We picked them out of the Society page in the Herald.

YELINA: Is that how you found your husband?

TAWNY WILLIAMS: Yeah, he…Reed had just been widowed. He was like a prime target. Only this time, it was different. I fell in love with him. Okay? I fell in love with his son. CALLEIGH: Faulty mechanism. Low-grade ammunition. Poor gun maintenance.
